HypnoBirthing Essentials

Midwife-led preparation for an empowered birth

HypnoBirthing is an effective form of birth preparation that combines the wisdom of the body with the power of the mind.

Learn about the mind-body connection, the physiology of birth, the hormonal dance, the holistic journey of birth, biomechanics for birth, the role of the birth partner, optimising your birth environment and how to navigate your choices. Expect breath work, relaxation techniques, active birth positions, massage and movement. Learn to work together with your body and your baby to step into the birth space fearless and confident.

This course has been created from the lessons I have learnt as a midwife supporting thousands of women and families through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

This 5 hour course is a comprehensive, essential birth preparation workshop. It can be practised as a stand alone course or an ideal accompaniment to an NHS or private antenatal class. Or perhaps you have birthed before and simply want to remind yourself of your birthing power?

Here we will explore the main principles, tools and techniques of HypnoBirthing to support you to have the best possible birth experience.

I do not care what kind of birth you have… a home birth, scheduled caesarean, epidural hospital birth or if you birth alone in the woods next to baby deer. I care that you had options, that you were supported in your choices and that you were respected.

FAQs

What type of birth is HypnoBirthing for?

HypnoBirthing is for EVERY birth scenario. This course is based on the premise that birth is a unique, multi-layered, mysterious rite of passage. We can not plan for exactly how birth will unfold, but there are certain absolutes we can prepare for. There will be a strong focus on the journey of physiological birth, but we will explore all options. Many women say it is not how you give birth that matters, it’s how you feel about how you give birth that’s important. This course encourages you to remain open minded and calm, whatever path your birth takes, feeling confident and maintaining control throughout.

Will I be hypnotised?

No! A common misconception about HypnoBirthing is that you will go into a state where you are not in control of your own actions. HypnoBirthing works on the exploration of hypnotherapy techniques to support you into a state of deep relaxation through breathing, positive affirmations, guided relaxations and visualisations for those who want to use them.

What are the benefits of HypnoBirthing?

There are a number of known benefits from practising HypnoBirthing including:

◦ More empowered birth experience
◦ Less or no need for medical pain relief
◦ Reduced rates of intervention
◦ Gentle transition to parenthood
◦ More fulfilling role for birth partners

When is the best time to start?

I typically recommend anytime from 20 weeks pregnant up until right before birth. The sooner you start, the more time you have to prepare the body and mind.

Are partners included?

All birth partners are very much encouraged to join and share this journey. They have a key role in supporting a positive birth experience. The course will include specific information for the role of partners and suggest a range of tools to practice and explore.
